    Back
    Today, travertine tile is one of the ideal choices when considering natural tile flooring options. Among all the tile flooring options, travertine tile can be used almost anywhere and you can differentiate travertine tile options in regards to colors, finishes and cuts.

    TYPES OF TRAVERTINE TILE IN RESPECT TO COLOR
    All the natural tile flooring options vary in color, but travertine tile varies due to iron compounds and other impurities, so no single tile has one solid color nor appears exactly alike. These impurities cause a lot of color contrasts and variation. Since there is lot of color variation, you need to choose from one set of travertine tile that may closely match one another with minimal color variation and that is not visible, too.

    TYPES OF TRAVERTINE TILE IN RESPECT TO FINISHES
    Travertine tile flooring is available in the following finishes:
    * Polished
    It simply implies glossy and bright finished look to the tiles. They are very smooth, reflective and tend to look more sleek and elegant. Polished travertine tile installation involves polishing and greasing, thus making it more stain resistant as well.

    * Honed
    This is also the most common style of travertine that suits to any room in your house. It is also grounded and smoothened but not like polished one. The surface of this travertine tile flooring is smooth with a cool finish.

    * Tumbled
    This type of travertine tile flooring is tumbled with rocks and gravel giving the look of age, wear and weathering. This can be a great option for outdoors areas such as patios as this type of finish makes it slip resistant.

    * Brushed
    Brushed travertine tiles have a textured surface that is created deliberately with wire brush. This style is not shiny and reflective, which makes it less slippery. It is best for outdoor areas of your house. Both tumbled and brushed have holes present thus makes your flooring more textured.

    * Filled
    To have a filled travertine tile flooring, the holes in the tile are filled with cement or resin. This not only makes it look beautiful and elegant but also increases its durability as well.

    * Chiseled
    This emphasizes the rustic look of the tiles with rough sides, smooth edges with giving an extraordinary look to your flooring.

    TYPES OF TRAVERTINE TILE IN RESPECT OF CUTS
    Unlike other tile flooring options, travertine tiles comes in vein cuts and crosscuts. Vein cuts are done against the bedding that reveals lines and on the other hand cross cuts are done along the bedding forming the circular pattern instead of lines.

    There is not a much difference in travertine tile options; it only the finish and cuts that changes the look of each travertine tile. If you want smooth and sophisticated look, go for travertine tile options that are filled and if you want a rustic look and feel, go with unfilled option. Thus, travertine tile gives you many variations and styles as compared to other flooring options.
